Fox News host Sandra Smith got into a spat with a Democratic strategist on Monday after pressing him for details about Vice President Kamala Harris' economic plan.
Harris promised to deliver a speech on economic policy this week at a fundraiser in New York on Sunday, The Associated Press reported. ReportedSmith, who was a guest host on “Your World,” asked Democratic strategist Kelly Hyman about the details of Harris' proposal.
“Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, to date, energy prices have gone up 32%. Housing costs, home costs, rents have gone up 23%,” Smith told Hyman. “Auto insurance, every time I say it, people know their bills are sky-high. Auto insurance is up 56%, electric bills are up 27%. For anyone living on a fixed income in this country, it's a rough time. So the question is, what is her economic plan, what is she going to do to get voters to bring prices down? Trump goes into detail in every interview about how she's going to get that done. We're all just saying, what is her plan?” (Related story: 'I'm a quintessential Democrat': Battleground state voter says Biden-Harris economy and border crisis drove him to Trump campaign)
Hyman interrupted Smith to try to shift the discussion to former President Donald Trump's support for tariffs.
clock:
“Let's talk about Trump's plan,” Hyman said. “Trump's plan is to impose tariffs. I'm not an economist, but economists say that will hurt consumers, will hurt the American people. You can see it online, you're going to have to pay over $3,500 for that. And it's not just going to impact consumers, it's going to impact small businesses that are going to bear the cost.”
“You seem to be talking a lot about Trump,” Smith said. “What's Harris' plan? We're waiting.”
Hyman said Harris suggestion Authorizes the Federal Trade Commission to impose “severe penalties” for “price gouging.” This was the Vice President's August 16th resolution. speech Regarding economic policy.
“I'm not privy to that kind of information, so I don't know exactly if that's happening right now, but there are people out there who are having to spend a lot of money when it comes to groceries,” Hyman said, adding that Smith noted Democratic strategists are “having a hard time” discussing Harris' economic policy proposals.
“That's not true,” Hyman said after Smith pointed out the issue. “You always interrupt me. I think it's disrespectful as a woman. I'm trying to speak and every time I try to speak you cut me off.”
Smith countered that he gave Hyman ample time and an opportunity to explain Harris' policies.
“Thank you so much for having me,” Hyman replied.
