Trump Calls Out Republicans on Social Media

President Trump has taken to social media as a procedural vote looms over a major bill that has been stalled in the House of Representatives.

Just after midnight on Thursday, Trump tweeted, “The biggest tax cuts in history, the biggest tax increase in history, the biggest tax cuts in history, and the economy’s failure. What are Republicans waiting for?”

He seemed to address some Republican holdouts directly, asking, “What are you trying to prove? Maga is not happy; it depends on the vote!!”

A few moments later, he added, “For Republicans, this should be a simple vote.”

Five GOP lawmakers—Keith Self of Texas, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Victoria Spartz of Indiana, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, and Thomas Massey of Kentucky—were the ones holding up the procedural discussions. This was crucial for Trump to get a significant package moving forward.

Eight Republicans had yet to cast their votes on this procedural measure, which included members of the Conservative Freedom Caucus who opposed the Senate’s approval of Trump’s agenda bill in a close vote on Tuesday.

In a conversation with reporters, House Ways and Means member Jason Smith (R-Mo.) pointed out, “They’re going to vote. They’re not opposed to the bill.”

He continued, “What I say to my colleagues is that perfection should not interfere with greatness. That’s why they vote for this bill, and that’s why the president will sign the law on July 4th. Test that and see if I’m right.”

The ongoing stalemate regarding what’s called the “rules” vote came after nearly eight hours of votes on various procedural matters, all of which passed.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has been working to convince holdouts to support the vote, indicating he would keep it open “as long as it takes.”

In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Johnson stated, “As long as it takes us to make sure we have everyone here, I left it open, and all the questions were answered. I made that commitment to the members.”

Should the rules vote pass, there will be at least an hour of discussion on the bill before it goes to a final vote on what has been dubbed a “big beautiful bill.”
