What is Pudge The Cat?

Eddie George’s Era Kicks Off with a Memorable Night

The Eddie George era took off in a spectacular fashion on Thursday evening as the Bowling Green Falcons led the Lafayette Leopards 26-7.

Interestingly enough, Cameron Petaway ignited the game with a stunning 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Markel Porter joined in on the action with a rushing touchdown, while Jackson Crether notched four field goals. It’s a little surprising how these moments unfolded, though they didn’t seem to grab too much attention from the crowd.

Pudge, a three-year-old exotic short-haired Persian cat, became the unexpected star of the event. The cat, owned by the Falcons’ long snapper George Carlson, brought some cheer to the team during what should have been a tense opening game. Carlson himself shared that he wanted to spread the happiness Pudge brought him. “I just make people happy,” he said. “He did it for me for a long time, so I wanted to share that joy.” How sweet, right?

However, it was a mixed reaction in the locker room. George mentioned he had allergies to cats and cornerback Jalen McClendon even recounted an incident from his youth where a cat had attacked him. It’s rather funny how pets can stir up such contrasting feelings.

Interestingly, the cat’s presence caught on among fans too. Fullback Leo Kemp perhaps helped spark the viral trend with a TikTok video showcasing Pudge among the team, captioned with a cheeky remark about their impressive $300 million facility lacking any cats in the locker room. That post was quite the hit, racking up over 367,000 views and some noteworthy comments from players on other teams.

Pudge even has gained traction on social media, sporting an Instagram following of over 3,600. In a fun twist, there are now T-shirts available featuring Pudge as a cartoon character wearing a Bowling Green helmet. It’s remarkable how a cat can capture the spirit of a team.

The game, it seems, was not just about football, but rather a delightful mix of enthusiasm, humor, and unexpected moments. As Carlson put it, “Pudge will keep me out of my way, I’m in his way and we’re fine.” A perfect reflection of how sports and pets can intertwine to create lasting memories.
