The Knicks Inspire a New Generation
The Knicks have finally turned their dreams into a reality.
Their success is sparking ambition among young athletes in Long Island. High school gyms are buzzing with hope as these teens realize that, well, perhaps anything is possible, just like it was for the 2026 NBA Champions.
“The Knicks waited a long time, but the moment is here. I think it’s something everyone should embrace,” said Jacob Steffens, a forward from Sachem North, celebrating the end of a 53-year wait.
His teammate, guard Sean Galvan, expressed optimism too: “We haven’t made the playoffs in ages or won a league championship in 20 years, but we can definitely keep pushing forward.”
Meanwhile, Greenport guard Troy Myers, an all-county standout, is eager to implement the Knicks’ winning mentality with his team next fall.
“They have no egos. They just work together, and I admire how they stick by each other during tough times,” Myers reflected. He recently moved from North Carolina and found a new passion for the Knicks. “When the pressure’s on, we need to band together. Even if we’re behind, it’s important not to stay down. We just have to keep going.”
Delaney Walters from St. Mary’s High School, who won the New York State Catholic League championship, has also learned valuable lessons from stars like Jalen Brunson. The Lady Gaels are on a mission to capture another title.
“The key for them this season was their resilience. They didn’t let setbacks bring them down; they just kept pushing forward,” Walters stated.
Champions like Matt Grande from the Nassau Southside Cyclones, who recently attended the Knicks’ parade, have drawn inspiration from the team’s journey, especially after guard John Pericorosi’s unfortunate injury during the season.
“The Knicks are the ultimate underdog story. They’ve faced struggles for so long, and I feel that connection,” Grande said with a big smile at the parade.
“Everyone is eager to win again, just like the Knicks. Even the players at the end of the bench were supporting each other. That spirit really resonated with us in the gym,” he added.
