What your testicle size truly reveals about you

Some people believe that the size of a man’s testicles might influence aspects of his personality. It sounds a bit quirky, right? But there’s been a fair bit of research exploring the impact of having larger balls.

A popular science YouTube channel has taken a closer look at this notion. They suggest that characteristics like the appeal of one’s voice or even sperm count could be influenced by how one’s testes look and their size.

AsapSCIENCE, created by Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown—who met during their Biology studies at university—produces educational videos on various scientific and tech-related topics, often using animation to clarify complex concepts.

Now, they’ve focused on testicle size, referencing several scientific articles to shed light on this subject.

What is the average testicle size?

According to Healthline, an average testicle measures about 4 x 3 x 2 centimeters. For anyone concerned about having one testicle larger than the other, it’s perfectly normal; usually, the right one ends up being bigger while the left hangs lower.

Bupa notes that a healthy pair should feel firm yet have a smooth surface without hard areas.

Does testicle size mean anything?

The video begins by asserting that scientists have observed differences in scrotum sizes among humans and other primates, attributing it to the concepts of ‘pre-mating’ and ‘post-mating’.

In the case of monkeys, ‘pre-mating’ hinges on physical traits that demonstrate dominance, while ‘post-mating’ pertains to sperm production levels in the testicles.

Interestingly, researchers found that howler monkeys with louder, lower-frequency howls tended to have smaller testes.

In humans, the creators suggest that studies indicate men with voices perceived as attractive may have lower sperm counts. Larger testicles often correlate with higher sperm production. However, another study hints at potential links between testicle size and family behaviors, suggesting men with bigger balls might be less involved in child-rearing, while those with smaller ones tend to adopt more nurturing parenting styles—though this isn’t definitively proven.

This is pretty theoretical, unlike the “summer long balls” phenomenon, where heat affects how low the bits hang.

Does testicle size impact your health?

Medical News Today states that while testicle size doesn’t directly affect health, there seems to be a connection between testicular volume and sperm count.

A study from 2022 points out that overweight or insulin-resistant children often feature smaller testicles, hinting at a potential link to lower testicular volume.

Dr. Rossella Cannarella from the University of Catania remarked that attentive weight management in youth might help maintain testicular function as one ages.

Testicular shrinkage, referred to as testicular atrophy, can impact one or both testes due to various factors like age, inflammation, or hormone use. It may lead to symptoms like reduced libido or infertility.

Furthermore, testicular cancer can modify their shape, and Cancer Research UK suggests that swelling or lumps in one testicle, or disparities in size, could be warning signs. It’s essential to consult a GP about any unusual symptoms.
