When can customers expect the next Costco price hike?

(NEXSTAR) – After years of warning customers of upcoming price hikes, Costco has finally increased its annual membership fees.

The fee increase, which will affect customers at all membership levels, was officially announced It came into effect on September 1st. New Gold Star and Business level members will pay $65 per year (up from $60) and Executive members will pay $130 per year (up from $120). Existing members will be charged the new rates when their annual membership comes up for renewal.

As mentioned above, Costco's decision to raise annual membership fees wasn't much of a secret: Former Costco CFO Richard Galanti frequently spoke of a membership hike being imminent, though he didn't specify a timeline.

The most recent fee increase, in September 2024, comes more than six years after the last increase in 2017, despite historic inflation, though Galanti himself said in June 2023 that inflation was a factor in Costco's decision to hold off on raising membership fees.

It remains to be seen when Costco plans to raise prices again, but if the previous average Galanti mentioned (i.e., a rate increase every five years and seven months) is correct, customers can expect to see another price increase around April 2030.

Costco, meanwhile, maintains that these fees, no matter when they increase, will ultimately benefit consumers.
