Actress Eva Longoria has criticized the US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE), labeling it as “non-American,” while reflecting on her life in her Spanish mansion.
“I wanted to come here and express my thoughts on the massive deportations happening,” Longoria shared in a video on Instagram. “Each time I tried to record, I ended up crying. I didn’t want it to be all about my feelings.”
Longoria described the Trump administration’s deportation practices as “very inhumane” and hard to witness from a distance. “It’s tough to see this unfold without being there. I can’t imagine how it feels in Los Angeles. It’s shocking to think it’s happening in Austin, Texas, and across the country,” she said from her Spanish home.
She expressed her astonishment at the public reactions to these policies. “Some comments are really surprising to me, considering it feels so un-American,” noted Longoria, who typically opposes the presence of unauthorized immigrants.
“To some extent, I think everyone agrees that we don’t want criminals in our country. Nobody wants rapists or drug dealers here,” she stated, but insisted that this isn’t reflective of the current situation.
Longoria then reflected on how deportations have impacted everyday life, lamenting the disruption of “birthday parties, elementary school graduations,” and the operations at “Home Depot.” She emphasized, “These individuals are not criminals.”
She urged recognition of their humanity, saying, “We cannot deny them as humans. We just can’t.” Longoria acknowledged President Trump’s campaign focused on illegal immigration, noting his electoral victories, which were partly based on this issue.
“People say, ‘You should have come here legally, but there’s no line.’ This mythical line people refer to just doesn’t exist for many who have been waiting decades for citizenship,” she remarked.
In closing, Longoria encouraged others to educate themselves on the complexities of immigration, suggesting that illegal immigration complicates the legal immigration process for many.
