Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get two payments in August, according to the Social Security Administration. This financial aid is designed for individuals who have limited resources, such as low income or few assets, like vehicles or bank accounts.
The first payment is scheduled for August 1st. Interestingly, because of how the payment schedules are structured, another SSI payment will come on August 29th, meant for September. So, recipients shouldn’t expect their September payments in that month; they’ll instead receive them a bit earlier.
Social Security benefits will also be distributed on four specific dates throughout August. Let’s break down the payment timelines and the essentials recipients should be aware of.
Understanding Social Security Overpayments
For those who have been inadvertently overpaid by the Social Security Bureau, the amount of their future benefit checks could be reduced. This might happen if beneficiaries do not report changes in their income, leading to excessive payments. In some cases, the Social Security Administration may miscalculate a person’s earnings.
Starting this April, the agency will inform recipients of any overpayments. After notifying users, they’ll have 90 days to request a waiver or negotiate a reduced repayment plan. Following this, the SSA will start withholding 50% of the recipient’s benefits until the overpayment is settled.

Supplemental Security Income checks will be sent on several specific dates in August:
- August 1st
- August 29th (for September)
- October 1st (for October)
- October 31st (for November)
- December 1st (for December)
- December 31st (for January)
It’s important to note that due to how payment schedules work, some SSI recipients may receive two checks in the same month – specifically in August, October, and December.
