Social Security Payment Schedule for November
This November, Social Security payments will proceed as usual, leaving just two months until the next cost-of-living adjustments kick in.
Social Security benefits, mainly for seniors and retirees, are usually disbursed on Wednesdays. If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th, your payment will arrive on the second Wednesday of the month, which this time is November 12th. Those born between the 11th and 20th will receive theirs on the third Wednesday, November 19th, while births after the 20th get paid on the fourth Wednesday, November 26th. Anyone who started receiving benefits before May 1997 will see payments on November 3rd.
For those receiving both Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), payments will come on the 1st and 3rd of the month, respectively. Notably, since November 1st falls on a Saturday, SSI payments will be issued a day early, on October 31st.
The government shutdown won’t disrupt these payments, and most beneficiaries can expect their funds to arrive electronically. This comes after an executive order that has eliminated the issuance of paper checks since the September 30 deadline.
Looking ahead, recipients can also anticipate a slight increase in their checks. Starting January, benefits will reflect a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment. This means an average rise of about $56 per month, which, I think, should help a little.
Impact of Government Shutdown on Payments
No, Social Security payments will continue, even though many SSA employees are furloughed. There won’t be any changes to the payment dates since funding for these welfare programs is legally required and not reliant on annual Congressional approval.
However, it’s important to note that some SSA services, like processing new applications, may be impacted by the shutdown and subsequent staff shortages.

Understanding SSI
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is designed for individuals with limited income or resources over the age of 65, that are blind, or have disabilities. Interestingly, children with certain disabilities can also qualify. Adults typically qualifying for SSI usually do not have earnings exceeding $2,019 per month.
If you think you might be eligible for SSI, you can start the application process online or by contacting your local Social Security office.
