White House Celebrates Star Wars Day with Trump Image
The White House marked “Star Wars Day” by sharing an AI-generated image of Donald Trump dressed in Mandalorian armor, holding Grogu, often referred to as “Baby Yoda,” and displaying an American flag in his bag belt.
“In a galaxy in need of strength, America is ready. This is the way. May the 4th be with you,” the message accompanying the image stated, drawing on the iconic phrase from the Disney+ series and upcoming filming of The Mandalorian.
The phrase “May the 4th be with you” cleverly plays on the famous Star Wars line, “May the Force be with you,” and celebrates all things Jedi and Sith annually on May 4th.
Last year, the White House commemorated the day with a post that featured a portrayal of the President wielding a red lightsaber, flanked by two bald eagles, with muscles prominently displayed under sleeveless Jedi robes.
The 2023 message also kicked off a wave of memes relating to the image of the President, humorously likening him to the character portrayed by actor Pedro Pascal. One of these images depicted him in a Star Wars tavern, interacting with well-known characters such as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
This year, the portrayal of Trump as the Mandalorian—even with Grogu substituted by Marco Rubio, who looked understandably concerned—plays on a popular meme format. It seems that artistic interpretations like these are quite common in online discussions.
Interestingly, Trump himself has made Star Wars references in the past, notably calling former Budget Director Russell Vought “Darth Vader” last October, pointing out his strategic moves against Democratic priorities.
The mix of humor and pop culture references in these annual posts opens up a fascinating window into the intersection of politics and fandom.
