White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt responded to criticisms from NBC reporter Garrett Haak regarding his remarks about the event.

Haak noted that during eulogies for the families present, the president criticized “fake polls” and mentioned he might be healing from cancer but wasn’t receiving adequate acknowledgment for it.

Leavitt’s reply was pointed: “The president is attacking the media because networks like yours refuse to cover the story of the Angel family.”

In his opening remarks, Trump referenced how media outlets were overlooking the plight of the Angel family, hinting that CNN and MSNOW wouldn’t broadcast the event live.

“These are our beloved family of angels who have been betrayed by our government and completely ignored by our media for decades… That was my first glimpse of what was going on,” he stated, recalling a distressing experience with the angel family.

Trump described media outlets that fail to report on Angel families as “sick people.”

“Everyone in this room has not only suffered an infinite loss but has also been victimized by politicians who prioritize the comfort of foreign criminals over American safety,” he remarked.

He added, “Their stories have been censored to an extent we’ve probably never seen before, giving politicians the power to open borders and let our country be invaded.”

Closing his address, the president signed a proclamation declaring February 23, 2026, as National Angel Families Day, followed by a military choir performing “Amazing Grace.”
