White House criticizes Jim Acosta for joking about Trump's deceased ex-wife

In a recent interview, former CNN correspondent Jim Acosta made a lighthearted remark about the burial site of President Donald Trump’s late ex-wife, Ivana Trump, suggesting it highlights issues around immigration.

During an episode of the podcast “No Kings” hosted by Jennifer Rubin, Acosta commented on Trump’s perceived hypocrisy regarding immigration, referencing his marriage to Ivana, who passed away in 2022. He humorously questioned why there haven’t been any ICE interventions at Trump’s properties, particularly his golf courses in Virginia, while implying a contradiction in Trump’s stance on immigration.

“Could someone call ICE at Trump’s golf courses?” he said in a clip that caught attention, prompting laughter from Rubin and reporter April Ryan. He continued joking, “How many immigrants has he married? One is buried on a golf course in New Jersey! Which hole is she in, the first or the second?”

Acosta’s comments seemed to poke fun at the ongoing narrative about immigrants taking on roles Americans supposedly don’t want to do, a common line in political discussions about labor and immigration.

Ivana Trump, the mother of Trump’s three oldest children—Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric—is interred at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Her burial there has sparked a lot of media discussions since her death.

The White House responded to Acosta’s remarks, with spokesperson Karoline Leavitt calling him “dishonorable.” Acosta, who left CNN earlier this year after serving as a vocal critic of Trump during his presidency, has maintained his critical stance as an independent journalist.

In the past few weeks, Los Angeles has become a hotspot for political strife amid several ICE raids in sanctuary cities, resulting in numerous arrests and clashes between authorities and protesters.

As of now, over 575 individuals have reportedly been taken into custody by the LAPD since the start of protests, and tensions are running high, with incidents of violence and conflict being reported.
