White House criticizes Mamdani for remarks connecting Trump to New Jersey bomb threats

White House Criticizes Zoran Mamdani’s Comments on Voting Threats

The White House has taken aim at Zoran Mamdani, a candidate in the New York mayoral race, for suggesting a connection between the Trump administration and reports of voter intimidation in New Jersey.

While New Jersey residents were heading to the polls on Tuesday, several bomb threats led to evacuations at multiple voting locations. Although these threats were ultimately deemed not credible, they created significant confusion for voters eager to cast their ballots for the state’s next governor. Mamdani made comments regarding these threats that raised eyebrows in Western political circles.

Describing the threats as “incredibly alarming,” Mamdani expressed his belief that they exemplified “attacks on democracy” currently prevailing in the nation.

He remarked, “We must recognize this as part of the Trump administration’s general strategy to intimidate voters through unfounded claims of voter fraud, which ultimately suppresses the voices of Americans everywhere.”

Mamdani’s Defiance and Election Day Remarks

In the lead-up to Election Day, Mamdani pledged to resist Trump in a demonstration from the Brooklyn Bridge to City Hall, signifying his commitment to democratic values.

However, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt responded strongly to Mamdani’s assertions, labeling them as “completely irresponsible” and lacking factual support. “There’s zero evidence for his claims,” she stated. “This reveals that the Democratic Party has no real stance—only an opposition to President Trump. It’s unfortunate to see leaders make such unfounded remarks regarding the president in light of the uncertainty around these threats,” Levitt added, addressing a question from Fox News.

Trump himself has been vocally critical of Mamdani and endorsed former Governor Andrew Cuomo just days before the election.

In a statement, Trump said, “I would prefer to see a successful Democrat win rather than a communist with no valuable experience. Mamdani has proven to be ineffective as a congressman, and as mayor, he has no hope of restoring the city to its past glory!”

Trump’s Support for Cuomo

Trump also suggested that voting for candidate Curtis Sliwa would inadvertently support Mamdani, even if voters didn’t intend to. “Whether you like Andrew Cuomo or not, you have to vote for him; it’s really a matter of making a choice,” Trump insisted, emphasizing Mamdani’s perceived shortcomings.

On the topic of federal funding, Trump threatened that if Mamdani were to win the race, he would likely limit federal financial support for New York City, which he characterized as his “beloved first homeland.”

Cuomo responded to Trump’s remarks, suggesting that Trump’s opposition is more about Mamdani than support for him. “Trump sees Mamdani as a serious threat to New York’s well-being,” he noted.

Mamdani’s Perspective

In light of the news surrounding his candidacy, Mamdani commented, “Trump’s backing of Cuomo illustrates that he believes Cuomo would serve his interests best, rather than those of New Yorkers.” He added that Cuomo isn’t the best choice for the city.

Fox News Digital reached out to Mamdani’s campaign for further comments regarding Levitt’s criticism.
