White House Delivers $9.4B Cuts Proposal to Congress

White House Proposes $9.4 Billion Package to Congress

On Tuesday, the White House announced a $9.4 billion rescue package aimed at solidifying the efforts of the Government Efficiency office in Congress.

The House Oversight Committee highlighted in a post on X that Congress has indeed received the package. They stated, “The White House has sent Congress a $9.4 billion retirement package. This includes funding for NPR and PBS, alongside a $1.1 billion cut for public broadcasting. These institutions will challenge America’s first agenda using taxpayer funds. They’re ready to dismantle this propaganda machine.”

Following this, Russell Votel, the director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, revealed last week that the White House would be forwarding the rescue package to Congress soon.

House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed his readiness to take swift action on X, noting that, once the White House submits its package, they would move quickly to pass legislation codifying the proposed cuts.

The retirement package is expected to propose the public broadcasting cuts alongside an $8.3 billion reduction in funding for foreign aid, which includes the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and NBC News. Reports suggest that this package can be passed with a simple majority in both the House and Senate, allowing Republican lawmakers to proceed without needing Democratic backing.

Lawmakers will have 45 days to act on this proposal regarding previous allocations.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk has shifted his focus away from Doge to pursue various business interests, although the agency is expected to remain active until July 4, 2026.
