White House Estimates Cost of Immigration Policies

The White House has indicated that immigration policies supported by the Democratic Socialists of America could cost American taxpayers as much as $613 billion over the next ten years.

This figure comes from a report released by the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA), which estimates the ten-year cost to range between $440 billion and $613 billion. To reach this number, the council calculated a lifetime net fiscal cost of $166,716 for each illegal immigrant. When applied to the existing illegal immigrant population, this totals between $1.4 trillion and $1.9 trillion.

In comparison, Fox News noted that this per-person estimate could cover the costs of a four-year public college education, including room and board, which the College Board calculates to be around $124,000.

A significant portion of the projected expenses comes from benefits. Legalizing illegal aliens under a mass amnesty could lead to an additional $361 billion to $475 billion in costs over a decade by providing access to food stamps, federal housing assistance, and Medicaid. Medicaid alone might add around $40 billion annually, with food stamps contributing between $3.6 billion and $4.7 billion each year, and housing assistance costing an estimated $2.3 billion to $3 billion.

The council also forecasted that reversing current enforcement measures could erase $227 billion to $287 billion in anticipated taxpayer savings. After accounting for savings from reduced enforcement spending, the net cost over ten years could be between $79 billion and $139 billion.

The report outlines eight policy initiatives linked to the DSA, which include Medicare for All, universal rent control, the Green New Deal, a 32-hour workweek, and a billionaire wealth tax. When assessed collectively, the net cost of these proposals is estimated at around $49 trillion over the next decade, or roughly $355,000 per American household. Seven of these policies could be counted against the federal budget, while the eighth, which involves dismantling the police and prison systems, was evaluated based on its potential impact on crime rates instead.

White House spokesperson Lauren Bis mentioned to Fox News Digital that President Donald Trump had provided the necessary resources for ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens, and argued that radical Democrats now wish to reopen the border and grant amnesty to those they freed.

The administration claims to have not released any illegal immigrants at the southern border for 16 consecutive months.

This report comes out less than three weeks before the midterm elections, with socialist candidates appearing on ballots across the nation, including the First Congressional District of Colorado. Fox News Digital reached out to the DSA for insights on the costs associated with its immigration policies.
