Mark Hamill’s Consideration to Leave the U.S.
Actor Mark Hamill, known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, recently mentioned that he thought about leaving the United States after President Trump’s victory in the recent election. This comment elicited a witty remark from the White House.
At 73, Hamill, who gained fame through George Lucas’ iconic films, revealed that he was initially tempted to relocate to the UK or Ireland, but his wife cleverly persuaded him to stay. He recounted her reaction a week later: “I’m surprised you’d be okay with leaving your country.”
Having previously lived in London, Hamill is a vocal supporter of Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, during the upcoming election in 2024. His remarks sparked a sarcastic response from the administration.
In response to Hamill’s thoughts about leaving, a spokesperson said that Hamill could now relish the achievements that President Trump has secured for Americans.
On another note, Hamill expressed his frustration with the current administration, exclaiming that dealing with what he termed “bullying and incompetence” made him feel quite hopeless. “It’s amusing, in a way,” he continued, “because these issues could last for years.” He also mused about absurd hypothetical scenarios like Canada becoming a U.S. state or taking over Greenland.
Despite his grievances, Hamill concluded, “If I leave, I might just go back to England.” It’s a mix of resignation and longing, perhaps reflective of the conflicting feelings many experience about their own country.
