White House Launches Official TikTok Account
On Tuesday afternoon, the White House officially debuted its TikTok account, @Whitehouse. The verified account quickly attracted thousands of followers, with its bio inviting visitors to “Welcome to America’s golden age.”
The first video features President Donald Trump, captioned, “America is back! What happened to TikTok?” This content seems to mark a new chapter in the White House’s digital engagement strategy.
In the video, Trump speaks passionately at a rally, stating, “Every day I wake up with the determination to live a better life for all of this country. I’m your voice,” while the crowd cheers around him.
Interestingly, the White House also announced its presence on another social media platform, X, suggesting a broader strategy to connect with more audiences.
Though the White House may be relatively new to TikTok, Trump himself has been posting since June 2024 with his personal account, @RealdonaldTrump. His inaugural video went viral, capturing millions of views and demonstrating a clear effort to reach younger voters.
Additionally, Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, found success on the app after showcasing her experiences at the 2024 Republican National Convention. With over 3 million followers, her behind-the-scenes videos have resonated with many users.
Looking back, it’s worth noting that Trump initially attempted to ban TikTok during his presidency if it wasn’t sold to an American buyer. In early 2024, Congress passed legislation addressing the app’s Chinese ownership, leading to executive actions aimed at managing its operations in the U.S.
Overall, while the launch of the TikTok account signals an embrace of modern digital discourse, it also highlights the complicated history the platform shares with this administration.
