White House Denies Report on Trump Commuting Diddy’s Sentence
The White House has firmly rejected a TMZ report suggesting that President Donald Trump might be considering commuting Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sentence after his conviction for a sex crime.
TMZ cited a “senior White House official” claiming Trump is contemplating this action “as early as this week.” The report also indicated that the president is indecisive and will ultimately act according to his own will.
On Tuesday, the White House responded to the report, stating that TMZ did not reach out for comment before publishing. The statement emphasized, “There is absolutely no truth to TMZ’s reporting, and I would have gladly explained it to them if they had contacted me before spreading the fake news.” It further added, “The final arbiter of pardons and commutations is the president, not anonymous sources.”
In contrast, TMZ has maintained their stance on the story.
Previously, during an interaction with a CNN reporter regarding a potential pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, an associate of the late Jeffrey Epstein, Trump mentioned that he had received a pardon request from Combs. “I have many people [who] He asked me to pardon him. I call him Puff Daddy, and he asked me to pardon him,” the president stated.
Trump mentioned that although he and Combs were friends at one point, their relationship soured due to Combs’ criticism during Trump’s presidency.
Combs was convicted in July on two counts related to transportation for prostitution but was acquitted of more severe charges like sex trafficking and extortion. He has been incarcerated since his arrest in September 2024 and received a sentence of four years and two months earlier this month.
The judge, during sentencing, expressed grave concerns, stating, “You abused your power and control over the woman you professed to love. You abused them physically, emotionally, and psychologically.”
In court, Combs requested leniency, admitting to being “sick from drugs.” He reflected, “You can’t change the past, but you can change the future. I pray for your mercy in your honor. I pray for your mercy as I become a father again, a son again, a leader in my community again, and get the help that I so desperately need.”
