The former Savannah Banana, Tristan Peters, is now headed to the MLB All-Star Game. This exciting news came just about 12 hours after he managed to hit for the cycle in a game. Peters, a rookie outfielder for the Chicago White Sox, was chosen as a replacement for Nick Kurtz, who was recently placed on the injured list.
During his final at-bat, Peters hit a triple down the right field line, marking the White Sox’s first cycle accomplishment in nine years. In that same game, he also hit a double in the third inning and brought in an RBI in the fifth, alongside two more hits in the seventh, including a two-run homer to center field and that pivotal triple. With this achievement, Peters joins an elite group as the seventh player in White Sox history to hit for the cycle, being the first since Jose Abreu did so in 2017.
What’s interesting is that Peters’ journey to the major leagues wasn’t typical. He spent five years playing with the Savannah Bananas after his time at Southern Illinois University. It was during his stint with the Bananas that he was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh round.
Before landing in Chicago, Peters was traded three times. He began with the Brewers, moved to the San Francisco Giants at the 2022 trade deadline, and then found himself with the Tampa Bay Rays three months later. After spending three seasons in the Rays’ minor leagues, he made his MLB debut there before being traded to the White Sox during the offseason.
Despite the White Sox losing a significant number of games from 2023 to 2025, Peters earned a spot on the opening day roster. Many anticipated another challenging season for the team, but surprisingly, Chicago is currently tied for the top position in the American League Central Division, with Peters playing a crucial role in this turnaround.
This season, he boasts a batting average of .303, an OPS of .841, and has hit 20 doubles. His recent success truly adds an exciting layer to what many thought would be just another tough year for the South Siders.
