Chicago White Sox and Bulls Owner to Step Down Amid Lawsuit

Jerry Reindolff, the owner of the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls, will resign in August 2023 as a lawsuit related to a shooting at a White Sox game unfolds. This incident, which occurred nearly two years ago, remains surrounded by uncertainty.

A 42-year-old woman was shot in the leg, while a 26-year-old suffered a grazing injury to her abdomen, opting not to seek medical attention. The older woman subsequently filed a lawsuit in 2024, claiming the team exhibited “negligence and recklessness.”

At the time of the shooting, a video shared on social media depicted patrons fleeing the stadium. A message displayed on the scoreboard indicated a planned concert featuring Vanilla Ice was canceled at the game’s conclusion due to “technical issues.” It read, “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.”

The exact manner in which firearms made it into the stadium remains unclear, especially since the venue strictly prohibits them. The stadium’s policies specify that any weapon, including pepper spray, is not allowed, and entry with a firearm is illegal, regardless of whether one possesses a permit.

Interestingly, while chaos unfolded outside, the game continued, with the White Sox ultimately falling to the Athletics by a score of 12-4.
