Whitlock criticizes Angel Reese’s false victim image in WNBA controversy

Last weekend, as the WNBA season kicked off, Caitlyn Clark of the Indiana Fever made headlines when she committed a foul against Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky. Following the incident, Reese responded with a bow, which led to her receiving a technical foul for verbal provocation.

Shortly after, the league initiated an investigation into claims that enthusiastic fans directed racial slurs towards Reese.

Is this just a coincidence?

Jason Whitlock doesn’t seem to think so.

He criticized Reese’s actions, claiming they were overblown, and said that the resulting fallout was driven by accusations of racist remarks from Fever fans which he called a “hoax.”

Whitlock doubts the credibility of the claims, suggesting that lighter fan attendance—typically from “black women” and “left lesbians”—makes the likelihood of such allegations being true quite low.

Interestingly, few have delved into the specifics surrounding the incident. In a recent practice session with the Chicago Sky, reporters sought insight from Reese, but she appeared hesitant to discuss the actual events.

During the interview, a reporter asked, “What was the impact of trying to play amidst this situation?” to which Reese responded, “It’s difficult, but I think I have a great support system. I’m loved by so many people.”

Another question was posed about the league’s response and the ongoing investigation. Reese mentioned, “They understand that this is a priority. Obviously, there’s no place for this.”

One journalist attempted to press for details about the reported racial slurs, but that line of questioning was cut short.

In another attempt, someone asked, “What do you want the league to do about those fans?” but the PR team for the Sky intervened, shutting down the inquiry.

Whitlock argued that Reese’s reluctance to elaborate is telling—he believes it suggests that “nothing happened.”

He stated, “Nothing happened to her except she nailed herself to the cross and pretended she was a victim.”

Whitlock posits that beneath these allegations lies a significant dislike for Caitlyn Clark, claiming, “Kaitlyn Clark hasn’t done anything wrong.” He remarked that it seems like Clark’s fans are unfairly vilified as they shout negative things at Reese.
