D-Mich. Governor Gretchen Whitmer said he regretted hiding his face during a meeting with President Donald Trump in his oval office last week.
Whitmer was enjoying the moment of Villar now by holding the folder in front of her face again during an event at the Detroit Economic Club on Monday.

Last week, Michigan’s Governor’s trip to Washington brought the 2028 presidential ambitions to national conversation when he hit a diplomatic tone with Trump. She carefully criticized Trump’s tariffs, understood the “motivation behind the tariffs” and even agreed with Trump that “we need to make more things in America.”

Whitmer’s viral, oval office moment marked his second meeting with Trump in less than a month. When Trump signed the executive order and answered questions from the press, he said Whitmer “did you do a great job” as governor and called her “a very good person.”
“One of her opponents will dig up the clip and put it in a TV ad,” Brad Bannon, a Democratic strategist and president of Bannon Communications Research, told Fox News Digital.
Bannon warned that potential 2028 presidential candidate Whitmer could endanger his position as “first presidential candidate” by coming too close to Trump, along with Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, and Gavin Newsom of California.

Whitmer’s office was brought into the room “without notice” as Trump signed an executive order calling for an investigation of two first-condition aides who were critical of his actions, saying her appearance was “not in support of any actions or statements that were made.”
But Trump called the issue “bipartisan,” and jokingly said, “We all stood together and cut the ribbon. Okay, Gretchen?”

Last week, Whitmer’s diplomatic moves appeared to have taken her a step forward with her party as Democratic governor. JB Pritzker Illinois and Newsom worked independently with their trading partners to ease the damage to the state’s economy.
