Whitney Cummings Critiques Wokeness in America
In a recent appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” actress and comedian Whitney Cummings voiced her concerns about the hypocrisy associated with modern wokeness in the U.S. She remarked, “I may not be an expert on politics, but I’m an expert on hypocrisy.” Cummings, who identifies as someone who used to embrace liberal views—having sported blue hair and shown compassion for animals—expressed disappointment in the current state of liberal ideology.
“The essence of being liberal,” she explained, “is to oppose racism and fight for equality. But there’s a lack of diversity in thought, which is hypocritical.” Drawing from personal experiences—including growing up among alcoholics who used loving words without genuine care—she pointed out how people can disguise their true intentions, something she now observes in political behaviors.
Identifying contradictions in woke beliefs, she said, “I started thinking, ‘Wait a minute, we claim not to believe in gender, but still demand a female president?'” She continued with examples that highlighted how public rhetoric can clash with personal practices. “For instance, how can we talk about climate change while choosing to live on the coast?” she questioned.
This isn’t the first time Cummings has aired her frustrations with the left. Back in January 2025, she mentioned on another podcast that what she considered liberal values seemed to have transformed, leading her to believe the party has become more about censorship.
Cummings likened her connection to liberal views to “Stockholm syndrome,” urging that true love for a party involves a willingness to critique it. She stated her upbringing among hypocrites has made her adept at spotting dishonesty in political discourse.
Starting her career on the MTV series “Punk’d” and appearing in films like “Made of Honor,” Cummings built a foundation in comedy. Over the years, she has produced multiple comedy specials, with her most recent being “Joke” from 2022. However, she revealed a sense of unease regarding the current climate for comedians: “Comedy has suffered quite a bit over the last few years,” she commented, noting that comedians seem to have become marginalized in the societal discourse.
