Who is Ingrid Andress? Country singer behind botched MLB national anthem

Ingrid Andress’ performance of the national anthem at the MLB Home Run Derby in July 2024 drew backlash on social media, catapulting the country singer into the spotlight.

The performance, which came ahead of the All-Star celebrations at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, was so impressive that even Phillies star Alec Bohm had a hard time keeping a straight face.

Prior to this highly publicized performance, Andres was best known as a burgeoning country singer with an impressive slate that included two Billboard Hot 100 hits and numerous Grammy nominations.

Colorado and Michigan Roots

The 32-year-old singer was born in Michigan but raised in Colorado, and was representing his state by wearing a Rockies cap ahead of the ill-fated performance.

Andres has deep baseball ties through his father, Brad Andres, who served as strength and conditioning coach for the Tigers, Rockies, Mets and University of Michigan.

She is a country music singer

The country singer first came to the music world when she appeared on Season 2 of NBC’s The Sing-Off with the a capella group Pitch Slapped, and returned the following season as part of the group Delilah.

Andress signed with Warner Music Nashville and Atlantic Records in 2018 and released her first album, “Lady Like,” on March 27, 2020.

Her second album, Good Person, was released in 2022.

The hits “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking” with Sam Hunt both charted on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 30 and number 47 respectively.

Andress is nominated for four Grammy Awards in 2021, including Best New Artist, Best Country Song and Best Country Album.

Prior to his performance at the Home Run Derby, Andres previewed a new song called “Colorado 9,” which is scheduled for release on July 24, 2024.

“Thank you all for being here for me even though I’ve been living a life of seclusion,” Andres wrote on Instagram when announcing the single. “You all are the best and I can’t wait to see you all at my shows.”

Andres is scheduled to perform in Nashville on July 17, 2024 and in Denver on July 24, 2024.
