Whoopi Goldberg caused a stir this morning's episode View When guest Latanya Richardson Jackson revealed that her husband, Samuel L. Jackson, was watching the chat from behind the scenes.
Richardson Jackson appeared on a daytime talk show to promote her new Broadway play the purpose. However, Sarah Haynes couldn't let her leave without mentioning that she and the Oscar-winning actor were together for 55 years.
“And he's here with me, because he can't let me do anything alone,” joked Richardson Jackson.
The camera pans to the hidden Jackson sitting beside the audience, urging Goldberg to leave her seat and pull him with his hands to the hot topic table despite her co-host protests.
“He doesn't want to come,” Joy Behar pleaded, and Goldberg replied, “too late.”
When Goldberg led Jackson to the table, someone handed him the microphone. After he greeted the co-hosts with the audience and friendly waves, Richardson Jackson yelled his husband, “Goodbye!”
Things became more confusing when the producers rushed over an extra chair to the hot topic table. But by the time they arrived, Jackson had already turned around and left the stage.
“This is she Behar said, reminding everyone that Richardson Jackson was the person they were supposed to interview.
The actress who met Jackson while attending Spellman College said she never imagined how successful their careers would be.
“We were doing revolutionary theatres. We were trying to make a difference in the world,” she said. “We weren't really here to be the star as he was.”
“I'm a blue-collar worker, like I tell people, and I'll show up to do my job,” Richardson Jackson said. “Trust me, he wasn't in the lane where he told him he was preparing to become a star. This is work. He was going to be an actor.”
