Whoopi Goldberg retracts her statement about ICE being 'violent criminals'

Whoopi Goldberg Clarifies Comments on ICE Agents

Co-host of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg, recently retracted statements she made implying that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents could be “violent criminals.” Her intention was to express concern about accountability in federal law enforcement.

During a segment on her show, Goldberg appeared to speak directly to President Trump, saying, “The person who said that was a violent criminal. So what was the result? It seems that the violent criminal is in the agency.” But after a short break, she clarified her remarks, emphasizing she wasn’t labeling all ICE officers as criminals.

“I want to make it clear, I’m not accusing everyone at ICE of being criminals,” she said. “Sometimes it feels like no one is keeping an eye on things.” This seemed important to her, as she wanted to avoid anyone misinterpreting her earlier comment.

Co-host Sunny Hostin chimed in, suggesting that Goldberg was perhaps pointing out a lack of accountability, particularly after multiple shootings involving ICE agents went largely unchecked. “We haven’t heard much about this,” Hostin noted, indicating that it feels like there’s a disconnect in oversight.

Goldberg seemed appreciative of Hostin’s interpretation, acknowledging her kindness.

In a related event, Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed in Minneapolis after reportedly driving her vehicle toward ICE agents. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the officer acted in self-defense. Her death has prompted protests nationwide and ongoing confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement.

Hostin reflected on the rising popularity of the slogan “Abolish ICE,” noting that opinions have shifted even in red states. She argued that people across the country don’t want violence to occur on the streets and expressed concern over the lack of consensus regarding ICE’s operations.

While some co-hosts argued in favor of ICE’s role, others, including Alyssa Farrar Griffin, highlighted that there seems to be little public consent regarding current practices.

ICE has not yet provided a response to the discussions surrounding these issues.
