Ben Affleck revealed that if his children want to get a “minimum wage” job and splurge on gorgeous items, they need to make money.
The “Gone Girl” actor, who reports a net worth of $150 million, has turned down the request of his son in $6,000 sneakers, reflected in a moment so far with his 13-year-old son Samuel.
“He wanted these sneakers, and I said, “These sneakers are $6,000, what are you talking about? What are you going to do, mow the lawn? Did you get $6,000?” Tuesday’s episode of “Today Today with Jenna & Friends.”
“He was like, ‘I have money.’ I said, “I have money!”
“You love your kids. You want to give them everything and do everything for them,” continues Ben, 52, who said, “I believe you’ll do that.” [kids] By not teaching them that “you have to work” for what they want.”
The actor’s teenage son “takes that reality into consideration” after his father turned down his expensive demands.
“He doesn’t see the shoes in his closet. Well, he has shoes. There are no crazy expensive flashy shoes,” Ben shared with hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Andy Cohen.
“And I said, ‘Well, if you want it, you can work 1,000 hours.” Do you know what I mean?
The sneaker in question was a pair of Dior Air Jordan one shoes, which initially sold for $2,000. However, sneakers quickly became collectors’ items, and the resale value of shoes increased dramatically.
“Good will hunt.” The star is also the daughter of 19-year-old daughter Violet and 16-year-old Seraphina. He shares all three children with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, who recently spent an Easter holiday.
When asked by Cohen about whether his children were working, Ben reveals that his eldest son is already beginning to learn valuable money lessons and picks up their own work.
“In fact, he’s like a classic teenager who’s just been working at a store and working on a new job. I won’t say what it is,” he said in an episode Tuesday.
“My older guy at university is working and is about to win a summer internship.”
