Why Eagles won’t wear green for their Brazil game

It's not easy being green, especially when you're playing at NeoQuimica Arena.

The home stadium of soccer club Corinthians in Sao Paulo, Brazil, is set to host the Green Bay Packers and Eagles on Friday night in the first NFL regular-season game in South America.

The only problem?

Corinthians and their fans dislike the colour green due to their rivalry with another club, SE Palmeiras, which uses green as one of their team colours.

And it's worth noting that both the Eagles and Packers use green as their primary home and away uniforms.

According to the Associated PressCorinthians players face fines if they are found wearing green uniforms, and home fans are discouraged from wearing the colour.

According to the Associated Press, the Eagles were the “home” team for the game. The visiting Packers will wear their usual home uniform, green jerseys.

At the beginning of this summer, NFL spokesman Tim Schlitner told USA Today: The green rule does not apply to this football game.

“None of that applies to the Green Bay-Philadelphia game, where both Packers and Eagles fans will wear green,” Schlittner told the outlet.

It was an interesting development for the Eagles heading into Week 1, after cornerback Darius Slay made headlines by saying he wasn't comfortable playing in a country with “such a high crime rate.”

Slay apologized Tuesday for his earlier comments.

“I would like to apologize to anyone I caused offense. That was not my intention.” he wrote on social media“I'm looking forward to playing in your beautiful country, which I hear you are all so passionate, just like our great Eagles fans.

“Can't wait for the next few days!!!”
