Why Eli Manning thinks the Giants should acquire another receiver for Jaxson Dart

Eli Manning Advocates for Giants to Add Receiver

Even six years into retirement, Eli Manning is still vocal about the importance of good receivers for a quarterback.

This time, he seems to have his eye on helping Jackson Dart, his pupil.

Manning expressed his hope that the Giants make it a priority to find a receiver to support Malik Nabors this offseason, whether through free agency or utilizing their No. 5 pick in the NFL Draft.

“I think it’s clear that we need a solid number two to pair with Malik Nabors,” he remarked in an interview.

“Top offenses often do this. I’m not sure if they should lean on the draft or free agency, but if an excellent free agent could step in as that No. 2, I’d be all for it.”

The Giants’ receiving situation is complex right now.

First off, Nabors is on the mend from a torn ACL. While the team hopes he’ll be back for training camp, there’s no guarantee he’ll be ready for Week 1.

Additionally, Wan’Dale Robinson has become a free agent after a standout season, racking up 92 catches, over 1,000 yards, and four touchdowns.

Furthermore, Darius Slayton’s cap hit is a staggering $16 million, which is hard to justify given his position as possibly the third or fourth receiver.

If the Giants lose Robinson, the case could be made for needing two top-tier receivers to bolster their lineup.

The Cowboys are rumored to be using the franchise tag to keep the top free agent receiver, George Pickens, from entering the free agency pool.

Next on the list of available receivers are names like Robinson, Alec Pierce (Colts), Mike Evans (Buccaneers), Romeo Dubs (Packers), Rashid Shahid (Seahawks), and Ja’Juan Jennings (49ers).

Evans, possibly heading for the Hall of Fame, could offer valuable lessons to Nabors.

“For Nabors, having a seasoned player who knows how to excel and create separation is critical. It’s those little nuances that define a top receiver. I believe he’ll benefit greatly from that,” Manning added.
