Joe Burrow Talks Return from Injury
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow acknowledges the concerns surrounding his comeback from a toe injury, especially given the team’s 3-8 record and slim playoff hopes.
At a press conference ahead of Thursday’s game against the Ravens, Burrow, who had surgery for a Grade 3 turf toe injury on his left foot after Week 2, stated that he never considers sitting out as long as he’s healthy.
“From the moment it happened, I did all I could to get back on the field,” Burrow explained. “I’m a football player, and I get paid well to play this game with my teammates. We put in a lot of effort, and there’s intensity involved.”
He added, “But ultimately, it’s just a game. I’ve been focused on getting healthy so I can play with my teammates. That’s what I want.”
Burrow is clear about not letting fear dictate his approach to the game. “I get why some people think that way, but I’m a football player. If I get hurt, I’ll work through the recovery and let everyone know when I’m ready to play,” he said, sounding a bit frustrated by the questioning. “It’s not something I dwell on.”
“I won’t approach someone and say, ‘Yeah, I’m fine, but I don’t think it’s smart to play,’ because that just doesn’t resonate with me,” he shared.
“I’m not gonna let the possibility of injury control my life or my gameplay. Yes, injuries happen – that’s just part of football. It’s physical and intense; it comes with the territory.”
He continued, admitting to having faced injuries in the past. “I’ve done my best to avoid them, but when they occur, I can manage my rehabilitation and practice. I just focus on getting back out there quickly. That’s all I can do.”
Burrow expressed excitement about facing their AFC North rival, the Ravens, particularly on a national stage during Thanksgiving.
The Bengals, currently behind both the Ravens and the Steelers in the division standings, need to win all of their remaining games to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
Cincinnati’s matchup against Baltimore is set for Thanksgiving Day at 8:20 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium.
