To ensure you can still access your accounts, officials urge you to log in, especially if you created your account online.My Social SecurityPlease open your “Account” by September 18, 2021. These account holders will soon need to transition to a Login.gov account to access online Social Security services.
The online “My Social Security” account allows both beneficiaries and those not yet receiving benefits to access services such as applying for a replacement Social Security card, estimating future benefits, checking the status of a benefit application and managing current benefits.
The online service is intended to save time for current and future beneficiaries, as well as the Social Security Administration, which has struggled with long wait times at its national 800 numbers. The average time to answer those calls was about 36 minutes in the second quarter, according to the Social Security Administration. The administration is working to reduce the average wait time to 12 minutes by the end of September 2025.
