WI Dem. Gov. Tony Evers Vetoes Bill to Protect Girls’ Sports from Trans Athletes

Wisconsin’s liberal Democratic Gov. Tony Evers arranged a flashy veto ceremony Tuesday to refuse to pass a bill that would protect women’s sports in the dairy state.

The bill would prohibit transgender students from choosing a team that matches their gender identity at any time and would restrict them from playing on teams that match their birth gender. milwaukee sentinel report.

Evers, surrounded by progressive Democrats and transgender radical activists in the state capital, Madison, vetoed the bill.

“These types of laws, and the harmful rhetoric that result from promoting them, harm the mental health of Wisconsin’s LGBTQ residents and children, encourage anti-LGBTQ harassment, bullying, and violence, and threaten the mental health of Wisconsin’s LGBTQ residents and children. It threatens the safety and dignity of our residents, especially our LGBTQ children,” Evers shouted in his veto statement.

“I will veto any bill that would make Wisconsin a less safe, inclusive, and welcoming place for LGBTQ people and children,” Evers added. Protect their rights and keep them safe. ”

Evers went on to accuse Republicans of targeting LGBTQ children for “harm.”

“We expect our children to treat each other with kindness, respect, empathy and compassion, and they should be able to expect adults to lead by example,” Evers exaggerated. “I urge the Republican majority to carefully consider the harmful effects of their efforts and actions on children before introducing similar legislation in the future.”

But Republicans have fiercely pushed back against Evers’ accusations, insisting the bill’s purpose is to protect the safety, equity and comfort of the majority of girls, not attack the few so-called transgender girls who want to play. . A state-sponsored women’s team sport.

“Men have a huge physical advantage. They’re bigger, stronger, faster,” said state Rep. Joel Kitchens, R-Sturgeon Bay. “Title IX was created so that women could enjoy the same benefits, the same character development (in sports) that men have always had.”

Republican Rep. Barbara Dietrich also criticized Evers.

“While (Evers) and his ilk continue to gaslight the public that this bill is about hate and exclusion, he believes that this bill respects the safety and benefits of biological girls in Wisconsin. “It ignores the fact that it provides a category for all Wisconsin students while protecting them,” Dietrich said.

“Tony Evers is going against the majority of Wisconsinites with this disgraceful veto. According to a Marquette University Law School poll, 70% of Wisconsin residents approve of this bill. His veto today clearly demonstrates his disregard for women and girls and for protecting the fruits of their hard struggle.”
