Vindman tweeted after authorities arrested a man on Sunday outside Trump's golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The man was reportedly armed with a scoped rifle and was about 300-500 yards away from the former president when a Secret Service agent fired four to six shots at him, causing him to flee. The former president was not harmed.
Vindman's post sparked outrage on social media, particularly for mocking the first assassination attempt that injured his ear and took the life of former Pennsylvania fire chief Corey Comperatore.
Vindman later doubled down on his comments.
“I'm sorry you're upset. No I'm not upset. I don't care at all,” she later posted to X. “Trump has been inciting violence against his opponents for years. He pours gasoline on them, lights a match and walks away without claiming responsibility,” she added. “Look what's happening right now in Springfield, Ohio. But he wants to claim he's the victim. You can't have both at the same time.”

Vindman's comments stand in stark contrast to those of other Democratic leaders who strongly condemned Sunday's assassination attempt.

In a statement, the White House said: “The President and Vice President were briefed on the security incident at Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was playing golf. They are relieved to learn that former President Trump is safe. Their teams will provide regular updates.”
