Hollywood movie star Will Ferrell offered a psychoanalysis of people who oppose the transgender agenda, and it was pretty negative.
Ferrell made the comment as part of a promotional campaign for a Netflix documentary about a road trip across the United States with a friend who recently transitioned from male to female.
“If the trans community is a threat to you, I think it comes from a lack of confidence and safety in yourself.”
“I think we're afraid of what we don't know,” Ferrell said. independent When asked why transphobia exists.
“There is hatred out there. This is very real and in certain situations very dangerous for trans people,” he added. “But I don't understand why trans people would threaten me, a cis man.”
The film depicts Ferrell's nearly 30-year friendship with comedy writer Andrew Steele, who now goes by the female name Harper Steele.
“Aside from whether or not you can finally wrap your head around it, why should you care whether someone is happy or not? Why is that a threat to you? ?” Ferrell continued. “If the trans community is a threat to you, I think it's because you don't feel confident or safe in yourself.”
The two maintained that the film's tone was apolitical and was not intended to present a partisan view on transgender issues. Some on social media found the argument unconvincing.
“Will Ferrell is not an incarcerated woman who has to sleep with her rapist. He is not a 14-year-old girl who has to share a school bathroom with boys. He is not a female athlete. He's rich and naive.” answered One critic.
