Week 6 of Monday Night Football will feature important games in the AFC East. buffalo bills and new york jets. The Bills will be hoping running back James Cook will be available to help them snap out of a losing streak.
The Bills, who scored 47 points against the Jaguars in Week 3, have only scored 33 points over the past two weeks combined. The Jets, who fired head coach Robert Saleh last week and replaced him with defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, could face a similar challenge. Josh Allen and the Bills need a win after losing the last two games against the Jets at MetLife Stadium.
James Cook injury status
Bills running back James Cook did not practice Thursday or Friday. However, the Bills were somewhat optimistic about the status of their starting running back. Cook practiced with a limited number of people on Saturday.
Cook will be officially listed as questionable on the injury report. According to ESPN's Adam Schefterhe is scheduled to play against the Jets on Monday night. Cook's play will be a great boost for the Bills' offense, as he has become a mainstay in 2024.
What James Cook's injury means for fantasy football
In fantasy football leagues, Monday Night Football games tend to have dramatic endings in the closing stages. This week is likely to be no different, especially considering James Cook's health. There's no better feeling or stress than getting ahead of a Monday night fantasy game. Cook's injury will only add to the drama.
The Bills running back is scheduled to play, but his touches could be reduced as he returns from a toe injury on the turf. Depending on how much the injury actually bothers him, he could be less efficient than he has been this season.
If you have Cook on your roster, he's an obvious starting lineup player considering his strong performance each week. There's a reason Cook is the RB5 this season, scoring 15 or more points in PPR formats in three of the past four weeks. Even against a tough Jets defense that allowed the eighth-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs in 2024, Cook is worthy of starting. That being said, it would be wise to start the Bills' running backs on flex in case a last-minute adjustment is needed.
Cook is scheduled to play, but Ty Johnson is also a player to keep an eye on. Johnson is a backup for Week 5 and could be worth picking up as a backup plan if you have space for an extra player on your bench.
