McDonald’s Relentless Performance

Will McDonald IV reached out to Aaron Glenn recently, sharing a determination to stay aggressive throughout the season.

“I just told him we’re going to stay relentless,” McDonald explained. “It’s straightforward—just keep pushing from the start of the season to the end.”

His recent game showcased this tenacity, earning him the game ball with four sacks—now totaling 27, including 20 during his time with the Browns.

This accomplishment is noteworthy in franchise history, putting him in a select group with John Abraham (2001) and Marc Gastineau (1983 and ’84).

“He’s incredibly relentless. In fact, he mentioned this mindset to the team,” Glenn commented. “I have a lot of faith in him. For him to deliver on that promise of relentless play—it’s impressive. He made it happen.”

Interestingly, McDonald noted that he had begun the season with two sacks but struggled to add to that until now. Out of nowhere, he’s bounced back with seven.

“It didn’t change anything for us. We’ve been relentless since the beginning,” he remarked. “If you maintain persistence, people will eventually yield.” This latest display of pressure was a unique kind of relentless.

McDonald reflected on maximizing the opportunities presented during games, emphasizing that one pivotal moment can pivot the outcome. “We must capitalize on every chance—it could change the game,” he said, underscoring the importance of defensive cohesion for continued success.

Even amidst trade discussions, the Jets opted to hold onto McDonald during the week Quinnen Williams and Sauce Gardner were released.

Williams’ impact was fundamental, too. “He helped me greatly,” McDonald acknowledged. “He coached me on various techniques and was always someone you wanted to learn from.”

“It was a bit of a blow to see them part ways, but we need to keep pushing forward and trust the process,” McDonald added. “Everyone in this locker room just needs to believe in one another, and I think we’ll be alright.”
