Will YouTube follow in Google’s footsteps antitrust lawsuit?

Following a court ruling that found Google engaged in monopoly practices by unlawfully dominating the internet search market, many are left with questions. What's next for YouTube?

Editor-in-Chief of Blaze Media return Peter Gietl joins Jill Savage and the “Blaze News Tonight” panel to discuss whether YouTube could also be subject to antitrust litigation.

“Should YouTube be investigated for possible antitrust violations?” asks Gill.

“Of course,” Mr. Guietl replied.

“They've had decades of collusion and monopoly behavior — stifling competitors, going after prices and fixing prices — and this is really debatable,” he said.

Matthew Peterson, editor-in-chief of Blaze Media, wonders “how did we get to this point in the first place?”

According to Gietl, it all began in the mid-1990s, when DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), the research and development agency of the US Department of Defense, gave Google money to create an online library.

Seems innocent enough.

But online libraries weren't the only thing DARPA was funding.

“They wanted the ability to track search queries,” Guitl says, “and they thought if they could track different groups and what they searched for, that would be a very powerful tool for tracking populations.”

“Google has a long history of collusion with Alphabet Institutions, as the company was founded with their original funding,” he explains.

Currently, “Google controls 90 percent of search, and I think most of the rest comes through YouTube, which is also owned by Google,” Gietl continues, “and companies that want to advertise have to play in Google's sandbox and play by Google's rules. Essentially, Google controls all online advertising and search queries in the world.”

“We know they suppress conservative content and conservative voice,” Gill said, noting that The Blaze's content is constantly battling walls of censorship.

Gietl said that while it's technically a free market, society no longer functions like a free market, given that small businesses are going up against “giants” like Google that “wield enormous power.”

“Like right-wing companies, [Blaze Media] “You definitely want to avoid doing business with these people,” Peterson said, “but the problem is, if you want to reach people and actually make money, there isn't a big enough alternative ecosystem to make that happen.”

“I know that if I post a video on YouTube and talk about certain topics, it will be demonetized, removed, and my entire channel will be shut down,” he lamented, adding that this is why it's so important to get your content directly from the source.

“That's why we want you to Please subscribe and support us directly“Because the more people that do that, the less we have to worry about these things,” he says.

“Do you think this court decision against Google will have any real-world impact?” Peterson asks.
