Actor William Shatner said he has no idea why Americans didn't elect a vice president, even though Kamala Harris ticked all the demographic boxes.
Shatner made the comments while speaking with Bill Maher on an episode of Bill Maher's “Club Random Podcast.” published Sunday.
“It's not the candidates. … That's identity politics. That's one of the problems with the Democratic Party.”
“I don't understand why the Democrats lost. I don't understand why the Democrats lost!” said a perplexed Shatner.
Maher tried to explain that there are many reasons for the election results, but focused on President Joe Biden's insistence that he remain the nominee until it is too late.
“I understand that,” Shatner said. “But inflation? Prices are down, the economy is good. I don't know why they voted against her, why they voted against the party.”
“Basically, she wasn't a great candidate, to be honest,” Maher said.
“Why wouldn't she be a great candidate?” Shatner interrupted. “She combined several ideological trends here: black, female.”
“No, that's not the candidate,” Maher replied. “That's identity politics. That's one of the problems with the Democratic Party.”

Maher went on to opine that Democrats could have won the election if they had changed their strategy.
“I think the Democrats could have won this election by walking distance,” he said. “It wasn’t a walk, but I think we could have won if Biden had come out sooner. [if] They had a real primary season to find the best candidate, not just the candidate whose turn came – by the way, before they anointed her, she was a very good candidate. No one thought it was there. ”
Because Mr. Shatner is a Canadian citizen, he could not vote in the U.S. election.
