Virginia Lt. Gov. Addresses Federal Funding Risks Over Transgender Policies

Virginia’s Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, recently discussed on “Fox & Friends” the potential loss of federal funds connected to transgender bathroom policies in her state. Currently vying for the governor’s seat as a Republican, Earle-Sears expressed her alignment with parents regarding the school policies concerning transgender issues. She emphasized the need for Virginia schools to stop adhering to what she described as a transgender ideology and instead comply with federal law.

During her conversation with Brian Kilmeade, Earle-Sears noted some challenges that certain areas in Virginia face when trying to comprehend President Trump’s recent executive order on this matter. She pointed out that the majority of Virginia understands the importance of maintaining safe spaces for young girls in school facilities, expressing frustration over specific schools in Northern Virginia that allegedly fail to create such safety.

“It’s not Virginia at large that’s confused,” she asserted. “The problem seems to lie with a handful of schools that aren’t prioritizing safety and education.” Furthermore, she remarked that parents send their children to schools in hopes of ensuring their safety, urging educators to focus on core subjects like reading, writing, and math.

Earle-Sears highlighted her efforts to safeguard all children, aiming to prevent five Virginia schools from losing essential federal funding due to noncompliance with transgender policies. “All of them are kids. They are vulnerable,” she stated, emphasizing the particular risk to young girls in bathrooms and locker rooms.

In a more pointed discussion, she referenced a troubling incident involving a transgender student who allegedly assaulted another student but faced little in the way of consequences. According to Earle-Sears, the individual was merely transferred to another school without informing the parents of the previous incident. “This is really about the safety of girls in the bathroom,” she lamented.

In the political landscape, Earle-Sears has found herself in opposition to former Congressman Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat who condemned a controversial protest sign that compared transgender bathroom access to racial segregation. Earle-Sears, who is Black, found the comparison disturbing and criticized Spanberger’s response as inadequate. “Leaders should respond more firmly to such unacceptable comparisons,” she noted. “We need strong leadership that takes these issues seriously.”
