Winter Olympics: Vance and the second lady go to the opening ceremony

Lindsey Vonn’s Olympic Plans Despite Injury

Three-time Olympic medalist Lindsey Vonn has shared her intention to compete in the upcoming Winter Olympics, even after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Dr. Rick Lehman, a specialist in sports medicine, emphasized Vonn’s mental resilience and weighed the potential risks involved in her decision.

Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics held at San Siro in Milan, Italy, on Friday night. The event officially kicked off the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games, celebrating Italy’s rich history and cultural heritage. The Vances were seated close to Italian President Sergio Mattarella, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Kirsty Coventry also in attendance.

The NBC broadcast caught a glimpse of the Vances cheerfully applauding both Mattarella and Coventry during the ceremony.

Vance, having played a role in leading the U.S. team to this year’s Olympics, was seen with Secretary of State Marco Rubio at a women’s ice hockey match where the U.S. triumphed over the Czech Republic with a score of 5-1. This was just one event amid a packed schedule for the Vice President.

On the same day, Vance kicked things off at the Milan Ice Skating Arena, where he watched the initial session of the figure skating competition. Later, he engaged in bilateral discussions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Milan Prefectural Office.

During their meeting, Vance expressed his enthusiasm for the Olympics, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and competition that the event represents. “We’re really excited to be here,” he stated, emphasizing the opportunity for meaningful conversations on various issues, all while reporters looked on.

Vance mentioned that he had been looking forward to attending the Milan Olympics ever since he took on the vice presidency.
