Wisconsin judge plans to plead after being charged with assisting an undocumented immigrant in avoiding ICE.

A judge in Wisconsin has been charged with aiding illegal immigrants and obstructing justice. This comes after a federal indictment involving Judge Hannah Dugan.

On Tuesday, Dugan was formally charged with the federal offenses related to hiding individuals from law enforcement. The incident reportedly involved a man named Eduardo Flores Lewis last month.

The indictment claims Dugan misled federal officials in April while dealing with separate battery charges against Flores Lewis. She allegedly instructed immigration officers to seek a warrant at her office, simultaneously escorting Flores Lewis out through a side entrance to avoid detection by federal agents. Subsequently, he was arrested after a foot chase.

If found guilty of these charges, Dugan could face up to six years in prison and hefty fines.

She plans to plead not guilty, as her legal team stated in a recent announcement. They’ve emphasized Dugan’s commitment to the law throughout her career, asserting that she intends to prove her innocence in court.

Additionally, her lawyers have filed a motion to dismiss the charges, arguing that Dugan is entitled to judicial immunity for her official actions, although they acknowledge that such immunity does not necessarily protect her from all prosecutions.

Witness testimonies noted that individuals present during the incident on April 18 were visibly distressed and argumentative, creating a tense atmosphere.

Following her indictment, Dugan was arrested by the FBI in court, though she was later released.
