Teacher Faces Charges for Sexual Relations with Students
A 22-year-old special education teacher has been charged and could face a long prison sentence after allegations surfaced that he engaged in sexual activity with students at his apartment while also providing them with alcohol.
Nadia Horne, who formerly worked as a world studies co-teacher at Eau Claire North High School, made her initial court appearance on a felony charge related to child sexual assault.
The investigation kicked off on March 25, when the Eau Claire Regional School District notified school resource officers about a potential inappropriate relationship. Further inquiries uncovered a concerning pattern of grooming and exploitation involving several 16-year-old victims.
According to detectives, Horn specifically targeted at least two students in need of support. One victim revealed that Horn purchased a cell phone to facilitate communication via Snapchat, sending her suggestive photos.
When approached by law enforcement, Horn allegedly confessed to having sexual encounters with one of the victims three times in his apartment, admitting it was a mistake.
The young woman told police that their interactions covered “all the sexual things one could imagine.”
In addition, Horn reportedly acknowledged having sexual contact with another 16-year-old student, suggesting that this encounter was mutual and claiming she didn’t feel as though she was taking advantage of a minor.
Further complicating matters, Horn admitted to bringing three teenage boys to her apartment back in March. She mentioned needing a ride to her car, and upon their arrival, provided them with wine upon their request.
Currently held on $15,000 bail, Horn is expected back in court for a hearing on May 20.
The Eau Claire Regional School District has officially suspended Horn without pay as the legal proceedings unfold.
If found guilty on all counts, Horn could face a prison sentence of up to 40 years and a hefty fine of $100,000.
Following her court appearance, Horn posted bail and awaits her next hearing.
