Tragic Incident Over Dinner Dispute
Family members are in mourning after the death of a 25-year-old man. Wisconsin State Police reported that he was fatally stabbed in the heart during a dispute over a chicken dinner.
The accused, 27-year-old Mikayla Cross, allegedly attacked Lucas Roche in an Okauchee apartment on a recent Friday as he attempted to prepare chicken drumsticks.
Reports indicate that a week prior to the event, Roche had confided to some individuals that Cross had bitten her thumb, which left her feeling scared.
When police arrived around 6:50 p.m., they discovered Roche lying on his back with the homeowner performing chest compressions.
Cross reportedly confessed to the stabbing, stating that she wanted to go out for dinner that evening, while Roche insisted on cooking instead. When questioned about a struggle, she simply said, “No, I stabbed him.”
She also noted that Roche got angry and grabbed the knife blade, which ultimately led to her stabbing him in the chest. During the court proceedings, Waukesha County Court Commissioner David Herring mentioned that Cross did not hesitate to talk openly with the officers. “She admitted, ‘I stabbed him. Do you have to take me to jail? OK,'” he recounted.
Roche was transported to a hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Cross now faces a charge of first-degree intentional homicide, which could lead to a life sentence if she is convicted.
In her statement, Cross mentioned she perhaps should have chosen to go to a bar instead of confronting Roche.
The family of the victim released a statement expressing their profound sorrow over the tragic loss. “We are completely devastated by the tragic and senseless loss of our son, Lucas John Roche, the most loving, devoted and kind-hearted person we have ever met,” they said. “We are simply asking for your privacy as we process this at this time.”
Interestingly, a week before the incident, Roche had shared concerns about Cross’s behavior, mentioning that he was frightened.
Cross’s cash bond has been set at $2 million, highlighting the seriousness of the charges against her. Okauchee is an unincorporated area situated within the Village of Lac La Belle.
