Wisconsin’s Oldest Gay Bar, Co-Owned by ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Star Trixie Mattel, Closes Down

The oldest gay bar in Wisconsin, jointly owned Rupaul's drag racing Star Trixie Mattel suddenly closed on Sunday, just months before its 57th anniversary.

This is Milwaukee! The gay bar has been closed, according to a statement from George Schneider. Rupaul's Drag Race: All Starspink news It has been reported.

Schneider said the closure was due to financial problems caused by China's coronavirus pandemic and financial problems caused by the bars that had been closed for eight months.

“This summer was probably the 57th anniversary of this! Unfortunately, the celebration will not be handed over. As of today, we have closed the door forever,” announced Schneider. “The money is gone.”

“Coupled with the eight-month closure of the streets and sidewalks last year, the COVID crisis and the year after 2020 ultimately put the business in an insurmountable position,” he said.

This one! It was mostly closed in 2021, but was reportedly saved by Mattel, who stepped in to become Schneider's business partner.

“The bar was struggling for a while,” Schneider explained. “After all in on the 2019 expansion, the bar was forced to shut down due to Covid.”

“This almost forced us, but we survived,” he continued. “We were then challenged to endless annual construction, including streetcars, park upgrades, utilities and other projects.”

“We had almost always had a neighbor, and we had no chance to fully recover,” Schneider added.

Ultimately, the eight-month street closure ended the business.

“The nearly eight months of closure of the streets and sidewalks last year was something the bar ultimately failed to survive,” Schneider said. “We kept our grip as much as we could. We tried our best and tried.”

“I gave this! With every blood, sweat, tears, and every last dollar, I had to float it. I gave it everything to the bar – literally everything – and I'm proud of it. I hope it's enough to keep us open,” he added.

Schneider continues, saying he “is nervous to start over again.”

“After being so devoted to something, it's hard to imagine what will happen next. But I remember adversity quickly reminds us of our strengths,” he said.

“As I'm totally immersed in bars and nightlife culture, I've forgotten about those strengths, my achievements and many of the experiences that allowed me to reach my place. I look forward to rediscovering these parts of me,” added Schneider.

Mattel's business partners have also revealed that in addition to the closure of the bar, he has been working with “heavy and heavy on me.”

“Their world is also covered by closures, so support them as much as possible,” Schneider said. “I am forever grateful to them and I owe them a lot.”

Schneider concluded his statement, “To our strange community, our performance community, our bar staff for many years and our loyal patrons who have continued us, I hope I can do everything the best even when things get rough. You were all the magic of it for me. See you. Thank you.”

Mattel says this! According to Pink News, he was the first gay bar to visit after turning 21.

“The bar opened in 1968 and was the oldest continuous gay bar in the state,” the outlet said.
