With Time Voters Will Have ‘More Confidence’ in Trump Guilty Verdict

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-Arkansas) said on CNN’s “New Central” on Thursday that as the election approaches, voters “will have more and more confidence in the outcome of the jury” that convicted former President Donald Trump in his New York business documents trial.

“As time goes on, I think America will have more and more confidence in the jury outcome, not only in New York but also in the Hunter Biden trial in California. We have confidence that 12 Americans will render a fair and impartial verdict. Ultimately, I hope that confidence in our justice system will be strengthened, not weakened,” Hutchinson said.

“It’s interesting that you say the New York ruling is likely to become more and more accepted over time. The latest New York Times poll shows a slight change, and presidential polls also show that President Biden has gained about two points of support overall since the ruling,” said host John Berman.

Hutchinson said, “It’s a reflection of confidence in the jury system, but also the behavior of the jurors. It’s not all been made public, but the impression is that they took it seriously. They tried to do the right thing and it wasn’t a 9-3 jury with a mismatched verdict, it was 12-0. So I think confidence will grow over time. How the jury handles this is also important. They’re not going to go out and hold a press conference.”
