Without Federal Information ‘Drone Vigilantes’ Are Going to ‘Start Taking them Down’

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) said Sunday on ABC's “This Week” that given the lack of information from the government about drone sightings in New Jersey, individuals may soon become “drone vigilantes.” “We're going to start eliminating drones,” he said. ”

Christie said: “I've lived in New Jersey all my life. This was the first time I noticed a drone over my home. On a Friday night, I was at a restaurant in Monmouth County. People at the bar came up to me. Governor Murphy said he couldn't tell me anything. Do you know? Well, I don't know, but I'll tell you this: I think this is what's going on in our society right now, that we're moving fast. We're so used to it that if we don't fill that void, all the conspiracy theories will be embedded in it.”

He continued: “We can't fill the air with conspiracy theories, but the Biden administration and state officials need to speak up more and let people know exactly what they're doing.” .

Christie added, “I would like to see state police have the authority to shoot down drones and figure out why they're doing that. Of course, that would have to be coordinated with the FAA. But even when I was a U.S. attorney as a law enforcement officer, we always make those arrangements so that we can share power as governors, but the state doesn't have enough power to do what it needs to do now. have What we're going to discover, George, is that you deploy individuals who act as drone vigilantes and you start taking them down, because that's not what they want. They are now an important part of commerce, and law enforcement agencies use them frequently for surveillance and other purposes. We need to be able to operate in a secure manner, and we are not. .”
