Paige Bueckers Reflects on Celebrating Black Women in Sports
Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers recently discussed her previous comments regarding the celebration of Black women in sports during a podcast appearance. This conversation took place on the “Nilosophy” podcast, where she revisited her 2021 remarks made at the ESPYS.
Bueckers emphasized that no one succeeds alone, highlighting the importance of community and faith. “It’s important for me to use my platform for God and to spread positivity to others,” she said. After being selected by the Dallas Wings as the first pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, she reiterated the ongoing challenges regarding representation of Black women in the league, stating, “That’s still a problem, every day. There’s no even coverage.”
She pointed out her observations about privilege within marketing, feeling as though opportunities often favor white individuals. “I work hard and I’m thankful to God for that, but… it seems people gravitate more toward white men and women,” Bueckers noted. This contradiction brings to light a broader issue within sports representation and media coverage.
