Chicago Sky rookie and Kaitlin Clark opponent Angel Reese is slamming the media for not doing enough to combat “racist” fans in the WNBA.
On Wednesday, after Game 2 of the WNBA playoffs, the league released an official statement attacking fans as “racist,” “derogatory” and “threatening.” The league warned it would call the police “if necessary.”
Now, Reese says the media also has a responsibility towards “racist” fans.
“The media has profited from my pain and my demonization to create a narrative,” Reese wrote about X. This was to their benefit…you guys were a little late to the party, so they could have tried to put out this fire before it started.
Reese is accused of repeatedly taking cheap shots at rival Caitlin Clark on the court during his rookie season in professional baseball.
But now she says she's had enough of the “racism” directed at her.
“I sometimes share my experience of what happened to me, but for too long I allowed this to happen to me, and now other players in this league are experiencing the same thing. We’re dealing with it and going through the same thing,” Reese said Thursday. “This is not okay at all. Anything beyond criticism about playing the game we love is wrong. To all the players who have gone through or will go through something similar to me: very sorry.”
But this is a lot of complaints from the same players who also said they are willing to take on the role of “villain” in the WNBA.
“I've never been privileged in my life, but I certainly know the power I have through my platform,” Reese wrote to X. I grew it myself. That being said, I will continue to use my voice in the right way and say the right things, even if this being the “villain” backfires. It won't stop! ! ”
