A woman who admitted to lying about a sexual assault that sent an innocent man to prison for a month is facing multiple charges, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Angela Borisova Urumova, 20, of Bristol Township, told police:
was being attacked April 16 in the parking lot of a Redner grocery store in Middletown Township.
Urumova said the man grabbed her from behind, punched her in the face and dragged her to his truck, pulling down her pants, before running away, according to a statement from the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office at the time.
“Cellphone footage and store surveillance footage contradicted her claims.”
Middletown County police used the truck’s description to track down 41-year-old Daniel Pearson, who matched Urumova’s description. A relative of Mr. Pearson also owned a truck matching Mr. Urumova’s description.
“Pearson is known to police to be a methamphetamine user,” the district attorney’s office said at the time.
He was arrested within 24 hours of the report, and prosecutors filed a series of charges against him, including attempted forcible sexual intercourse. Pearson was held on less than $1 million bail and booked into the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
the truth comes out
A month after police began poking holes in her story, Mr. Urumova is said to have admitted that That she lied about the attack.
Police said data from her mobile phone and security camera footage from the store contradicted her claims.
When police confronted Urmova about the discrepancies on Friday, she admitted to making up the story, according to new charging documents filed Monday.
All charges against Pearson were dropped and he was released from jail on Friday.
She also admitted that she lied about the injuries she sustained and falsely blamed Pearson.
“Her grandmother, who claimed that Ms. Urumova suffered from dementia, did not notice her when she entered the house and threw a plastic object at her, hitting her in the lip. The incident caused a laceration to her lip. “She later claimed that Pearson was to blame,” the criminal complaint states.
When asked why she lied about the incident, Urumova said she had previously seen Pearson in the parking lot of her former employer and thought it was “creepy.” She also claimed that she had intended to come clean at some point before the matter went to court.
She was charged with two counts of making a false report to authorities and three counts of making unsworn forgery, among other charges.
Pearson spent 31 days in jail.
