Texas Mother Arrested for Alleged Child Abuse

A mother from Texas has been arrested following disturbing accusations of child abuse concerning her 11-year-old autistic son. The child was discovered in extremely appalling conditions in a mobile home located on Homan Street in Baytown.

As reported by the Baytown police, they responded to a call in May about an overwhelming smell of excrement along with a significant number of flies around the residence of 41-year-old Rachel Nicole Blaylock.

Police officers noted that the boy exhibited dried feces under his fingernails and on his face, arms, and hands. Blaylock described the odor as so unbearable that it made her feel nauseous.

In a conversation with officers, she mentioned that her son struggled to use the bathroom and often had accidents, leaving feces in his room and hallway.

Upon their arrival, authorities observed dried feces scattered throughout the home’s floor. After her son repeatedly attempted to flee the house unclothed, Blaylock had taken off his bedroom door and replaced it with a screen door, ostensibly to keep an eye on him while still confining him to his room.

Officers described a mattress in the room as particularly filthy and reported finding fecal matter on the screen door. The boy was in a troubling physical state, with rotten teeth and dried urine on his feet. During their assessment, officers documented Blaylock’s reaction when they advised that her son needed medical attention.

She reportedly replied, “I can’t just drop everything I’m doing and take him to the hospital, and then some quack doctor can say, ‘Oh, I don’t know what’s wrong with him,’ and I can send him to another hospital.”

In addition to the accusations of neglect, the boy’s grandmother corroborated concerns regarding Blaylock’s parenting abilities and acknowledged that many allegations of neglect were accurate.

The child weighed only 46 pounds, significantly under the expected weight of 88 pounds for his age, prompting authorities to place him in foster care.

On October 7, Blaylock was apprehended again, during which authorities discovered a cylindrical container attached to her belt. While she claimed it contained the ashes of the child’s father, police determined the contents to be crystal methamphetamine.

She now faces charges for injury to a child and possession of methamphetamine and is currently held at the Harris County Jail.

Baytown, home to over 84,000 residents, is situated on Galveston Bay, around 30 miles east of Houston.
